prismatica character info
NAME: Fox Alistair
CANON: RWBY
CANON POINT: Following the events of After the Fall (roughly after Volume 6).
AGE: 20
BACKGROUND: here
PERSONALITY:
Comic Relief: In spite of the way he may seem at a distance, Fox enjoys a good joke (or prank) more than anyone. He frequently reacts to serious or dangerous situations with a witty retort, and even has an entire conversation with Ruby Rose about what it's like to be the funny one on the team. To him it's important to be able to laugh in the hard times, because if you can laugh through a rough situation then you can keep your head up and figure out a way through it. There's a fine line between joking and teasing, however, and Fox... hops over it on a whim, to be honest. When he and Yatsuhashi meet Weiss for the very first time and she gives them both an attitude, she reprimands Fox for bumping into her without realizing that he's blind and literally didn't see her coming - rather than calmly point out her mistake he lets her run her mouth for a while, basically egging her on until the moment he reveals his disability just to make her feel all the more embarrassed about her attitude. For better or worse, Fox will usually verbalize whatever snarky comment is on his mind, regardless of who it's aimed at. Fox also has no problem making light of his inability to see; in fact, it's one of the most frequent subjects of his jokes, because if you can't laugh at yourself then what's the point, right? One of his favorite things to do when people realize he's blind and say "oh, you're blind" is to overdramatically pretend that he's just now learning this for the first time, complete with a feigned "noooooooooo" of horror.
Prideful: But just because Fox can laugh at himself doesn't mean he likes being looked down upon. Growing up blind in the deserts of Vacuo was a challenge, but many of his fellow tribespeople coddled him or treated him as something fragile because of his condition, a treatment he did not appreciate. He doesn't like when people assume he's useless or less capable because of his blindness, especially after he's honed his abilities so much to be able to overcome it. He's also quick to use his blindness to attack the pride of others who look down on him, such as mocking opponents who had considered him an easy target for not even being able to beat up "one blind kid".
Survivalist: Growing up in the desert also instilled a certain understanding of a survivor's mentality. Sometimes, you have to do something ugly to get by. Sometimes you wake up and someone's dead, either because the elements were unkind to them or because they had something someone else wanted (such as his "Uncle" Copper, the man who trained him in combat and treated him more like an equal than anyone else did - he ended up murdered by those who wanted what he had). When he hears about an elderly woman being left behind in the desert so the rest of her tribe can escape, he's neither surprised nor terribly bothered by the fact that it apparently happened. That's just how it is. It doesn't mean he'll let it slide if it's done against him or the people he cares about, but he gets it. It also doesn't mean that he likes or approves of those methods, and those facts of living in Vacuo were some of the reasons why he opted to move to Vale to attend Beacon.
Loyal: As a member of a nomad tribe, Fox's idea of "home" is not tied at all to one particular location. Though he knows how to traverse the desert and how to read the winds on the sand, he finds home not in places, but in people. Vacuo was never really his home so much as his tribe was, and when he decided to attend Beacon Academy to become a Huntsman he found a new home in his friends who now make up Team CFVY ("Coffee") with him. Once he's made that kind of connection he becomes extremely loyal, ready and willing to put his life on the line to defend it. That isn't to say he can't find sentiment in locations too, though. Beacon felt like home to him, and when it fell at the hands of Cinder and the White Fang he (and his team) were eager to stay behind as long as possible to do as much for the school as they possibly could, until their last reserves were spent and they made the hard call to head out of the city to embark for Shade Academy. Even so, having formed that kind of connection to the school, Fox is determined to make it back there one day to ensure that what had happened once can never happen again.
POWERS/ABILITIES: here, though the wiki omits some details from the book. Not only can he send people telepathic messages, but he can allow them to send messages to him and others similarly so long as he holds his focus. He basically creates a private telepathic network for a short time. It was also said that his ability to sense specific people grows stronger the more time he has spent getting to know that person.
INVENTORY: Sharp Retribution (his bladed tonfas), his Scroll, and the accompanying Accessibility Dialogue Assistant (which is basically a tiny earbud).
MOONBLESSING: Iris
